Gloverville’s Walking Tall Ministries: A Beacon of Hope for the Community

Gloverville, S.C., is buzzing with activity at Walking Tall Ministries, a remarkable non-profit organization that has become a lifeline for many in the community. For nearly ten years, this dedicated team has been working tirelessly to provide essential services such as food, clothing, haircuts, and various support programs absolutely free of charge. It’s not just about providing basic necessities; it’s about empowering individuals and helping them to regain their confidence and sense of purpose.

A Personal Touch

Recent stories from the people served by the ministry illustrate the profound impact it has on lives. Take the experience of Milton Tinsley, who found himself in a tough spot when his truck broke down just before he arrived at the ministry. Feeling nervous about sharing his predicament, Tinsley was met with warmth instead of judgment. “He came right outside and said I don’t know you, but I want to pray for you,” Tinsley recounted. That kind of immediate, compassionate support is what sets Walking Tall apart.

Leadership and Vision

Leading the charge are Zak Moyer and his wife, Felicia. Zak’s heartfelt dedication shines through as he shares his personal journey. “After being free from such a long life of addiction, to be able to help my brothers and sisters who are in the same place that I was and tell them there is hope,” he emphasizes, highlighting the transformative power of support and community. The ministry even leads work programs in partnership with local organizations like Goodwill, helping individuals to take the next step in their careers without any cost.

Comprehensive Support Services

Walking Tall Ministries provides a variety of essential services, including hot meals, groceries, showers, clothing, hygiene products, haircuts, and addiction recovery programs. Most excitingly, they are set to introduce a full-scale salon come October 1. Zak describes it perfectly: “We want it to be as my wife says a real bougie place. When the people come in, they feel like they have been somewhere nice where you would normally have to pay a lot of money for.” The vision is clear: to clean them up and make them walk tall.

Success Stories

The threads of change are evident in those who have found their way to the ministry. Zane Henry, who turned his life around after a couple of weeks in jail, expresses gratitude for the guidance he has received. “He actually helped me realize these things I’m going through are trials and tribulations, and basically, the Lord has something planned for all of us,” Henry shares. He is now enjoying a stable job and reliable transportation thanks to the ministry’s bicycle-to-work program.

Building a Strong Community

Walking Tall Ministries sees between 25 to 40 people walking through their doors every day, a clear increase in demand for their services. The heartwarming stories continue with Tinsley, now 8 years clean and filled with a vibrant joy derived from faith. “I get that high off of God that I did off of drugs, but it’s a dirty feeling with drugs and God is a clean feeling. You can get that joy every day,” he shares, emphasizing the life-changing support provided by the ministry.

A Vision for the Future

As the ministry flourishes, their aspirations extend to making an even bigger impact across the entire CSRA. They envision a thriving outreach that spreads their message of hope and support even further. The community can get involved by volunteering, donating gently used clothing, or providing financial support. For those interested in contributing, simply head over to 2195 Augusta Road or give them a call at 803-226-6579.

Join the Cause

With a focus on empowerment and community support, Walking Tall Ministries is a model for what can be achieved when individuals come together to lift one another up. Whether through volunteering or donations, everyone has a role to play in helping the ministry continue its incredible work. Mark your calendars for October 1 and support the launch of the salon, a new chapter in this inspiring journey of community service.
