Exciting New BBQ Food Truck Makes a Splash in North Augusta
North Augusta is buzzing with excitement as a brand-new barbecuing gem rolls into town! Palmetto Smoke-House BBQ, a delightful BBQ food truck, is eagerly serving up a taste of Carolina-style barbecue right from its cozy abode at 1187 Edgefield Road. Since its grand opening in July, owner and founder Mike Powell has been hard at work sharing mouthwatering meals with locals and creating a happy little BBQ community.
A Dream Turned Reality
After spending an impressive three decades in law enforcement, Mike Powell decided to trade in his badge for a spatula. It wasn’t an immediate choice, but he felt the calling to do something exciting that would feed his passion. With a gentle nudge from his oldest granddaughter, he took the plunge into the culinary world, and Palmetto Smoke-House BBQ was born!
“I kept talking about wanting a food trailer,” Powell said with a chuckle, reflecting on how the idea finally took off. “She finally pushed me enough, so we said, ‘Alright, let’s do it.’” There’s a certain magic that happens when family gets involved, and for Mike, it’s more than just a food truck; it’s a family-run operation.
What’s Cooking?
When you visit Palmetto Smoke-House BBQ, you’ll find yourself faced with an enticing menu featuring mouthwatering options like pulled pork, a deliciously smoky shredded chicken sandwich, and other hearty sides such as mac and cheese, potato salad, baked beans, and coloslaw. But what really sets Mike’s BBQ apart is the unique touch of Carolina-style flavors.
“The difference comes from the sauces we use,” he explained. “Carolina-style is all about that vinegary goodness, especially from North Carolina. Meanwhile, South Carolina leans more toward mustard-based sauces.” Mike’s pulled pork simmers for approximately six hours in this special sauce, creating a mouthwatering aroma that no one can resist!
A Local Favorite
Just ask regular customer, Kendall Blackmon, who claims he has already visited the truck three times! “I usually get the sausage dog and chips, but I wanted to switch it up and try the sandwich this time,” he shared with a grin. “It’s really good barbecue!” It’s heartwarming to witness the truck developing a loyal fanbase – proof that Mike’s BBQ is hitting all the right notes.
Future Plans
As for what’s next, Mike dreams big! He envisions expanding his business into a full-fledged restaurant in North Augusta while still keeping the food truck running. “I enjoy it, and I like talking to people,” he commented with bright eyes. “We live close and serve the community we live in.” Given the warmth and enthusiasm that Mike pours into his work, it’s clear that the North Augusta community is in for a treat.
