Excitement Builds for Augusta University’s December Commencement Ceremonies

In the heart of Augusta, preparations are underway for a truly special occasion as Augusta University gears up for its December undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies. Graduating students and their families are over the moon with excitement as they prepare to celebrate achievements and create unforgettable memories.

A Celebration of Achievement

This year’s commencement ceremonies will be held at the elegant Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center, with the graduate ceremony kicking off on December 11th at 6 p.m. and the undergraduate ceremony following on December 12th at 10 a.m.. Each ceremony will have a carefully chosen student speaker sharing uplifting words of encouragement, alongside a talented soloist performing the university’s alma mater and the beloved “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Spotlighting Inspiring Voices

For the graduate ceremony, the spotlight will shine on Churchill Ezeokonkwo, who is all set to receive his master’s degree in public health. Ezeokonkwo, who previously earned a bachelor’s degree in health and fitness management from Clayton State University, has incredible ambitions to work in hospital systems or with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His dream is to drive health policy reforms not just in Georgia, but far beyond.

“Home is never just a place, but the wonderful people around you,” Ezeokonkwo expressed, reflecting on the meaningful connections he formed during his time at Augusta University. As an assistant track and field coach, he’s developed close-knit relationships that have fueled his passion for leadership and mentorship.

Meanwhile, the undergraduate ceremony will showcase Eboni Watts, who is pursuing a degree in kinesiology. Inspired by her lifelong passion for dance, Watts has her sights set on a career in athletic training, focusing on supporting women in sports that often get overlooked. “Athletic trainers in those areas are scarce, and I want to ensure they receive the care and support they deserve,” she said.

Accomplished Performers Take the Stage

Adding to the excitement, Barbara Yancey will be the student soloist for the graduate ceremony. A seasoned musician, Yancey is eyeing a specialist’s degree in advanced educational studies with a focus in music. Her impressive background as a choral director has equipped her with a wealth of experience, making her performance at the commencement even more memorable.

“I believe music can elevate anything it touches,” Yancey stated. Having sung at previous ceremonies, she can’t wait to once again share her voice with fellow graduates and attendees.

On the undergraduate side, Emma Kelley, a transfer student pursuing a music degree, will take the solo spotlight. Inspired by her father, a music minister, Kelley has been singing since childhood. “Being part of the music community here has allowed me to grow tremendously,” she shared with pride, highlighting the mentorship she received from her professors.

Turning Challenges into Triumphs

Both Ezeokonkwo and Watts have faced their share of ups and downs throughout their academic journeys. “Even in tough times, remember to stay true to yourself,” Watts said, hoping to inspire her fellow graduates to embrace their unique paths ahead. A mix of vulnerability, hope, and resilience will resonate through their speeches, promising to touch the hearts of all who attend.

As the commencement dates draw near, the atmosphere is charged with joy, hope, and anticipation. Together, these graduates are on the cusp of new beginnings, ready to step into the world with their heads held high.

So, mark your calendars and get ready to cheer on the future leaders of tomorrow as Augusta University proudly celebrates the accomplishments of its December graduating class!
