Augusta Braces for a Week of Rain and Thunderstorms

Augusta Weather Forecast: A Week of Clouds and Rain Ahead!

Good morning, Augusta! If you were hoping for some sunny skies this week, be prepared to hunker down because we’ve got a lot of gray weather coming our way. Dense fog is expected to greet us on both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, so if you’re headed out, take it easy on the roads and drive with care!

What’s Coming Up?

As we move into the week, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecasted to hit the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) starting Wednesday. Moisture-laden air is keeping our skies cloudy, and temperatures are hovering in the upper 70s, which might make you want to reconsider those outdoor plans.

There’s a 70% chance of rain beginning Wednesday morning, and we could see some significant downpours in the evening. In fact, local weather experts are predicting as much as 4 inches of rain between Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon. While the rain may be delightful for our thirsty plants, it could also bring a risk of flash flooding—definitely something to keep an eye on!

Daily Breakdown

So how does the week look, you ask? Here’s the scoop:

  • Tuesday: Morning fog will start the day off, with temps around 61°F. By the afternoon, a bit of sunshine might peek through, bringing highs up to a balmy 81°F. Rain chances are lower, sitting at 30%, but with winds from the east/southeast at 15 to 25 mph, it’s going to feel breezy!
  • Wednesday: Get ready for those clouds to roll in! Morning lows will be around 63°F with the day’s high settling at 79°F. Rain chances will jump to 60%, and yes, storms are possible! Winds will lighten a bit, blowing in from the east at 10 to 15 mph.
  • Thursday: The clouds stick around, with a morning low around 66°F and a daytime high of 77°F. Rain chances drop slightly to 50%, but don’t let your guard down just yet! Again, evening storms are possible as winds blow in from the northeast.

Tracking the Tropics

But wait, there’s more! In the world of tropical weather, Tropical Storm Rafael is currently brewing in the Caribbean. While it’s expected to strengthen into a category two hurricane, it’s likely to weaken as it heads into the Gulf of Mexico. What does that mean for us? Well, we might experience some breezy conditions, a few extra clouds, and possibly a bit of rain, but let’s keep our fingers crossed that it won’t disrupt our local weather too much.

What Should You Do?

With all this talk of rain and storms, it’s a great time to prepare! Make sure your umbrella is handy and your raincoats are at the ready. If you’re out and about, keep an eye on the weather alerts and plan your travels accordingly to avoid potential flooding.

So, Augusta, keep your spirits up, and remember, rainy days are just a chance to cozy up indoors with a good book or your favorite show. Here’s hoping for brighter skies later this week!
