Community Comes Together in Augusta After Hurricane Helene
In the heart of Augusta, Georgia, residents are finding ways to lift their spirits and support each other in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. As the winds of change blow into the fall season, the Kroc Festival took center stage over the weekend, inviting families to come out and enjoy a day filled with fun.
A Day of Fun and Togetherness
Held on the last Saturday of October, the Kroc Festival dazzled attendees with a variety of events and activities. People of all ages enjoyed everything from trunk-or-treat giveaways to face painting, all while the Richmond County Marshal’s Office made an appearance, adding a touch of community engagement to the festivities. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, festivities, and smiles, as local vendors showcased their wares and provided a warm sense of community spirit.
According to leaders in the area, the festival served an important purpose this year. “One of the things we wanted to do in the aftermath of Helene was try to help get back to normal – try to get back to having hope that comes from moving back to normal, and this is just another way of doing that,” shared Maj. Jonathan Raymer, area commander of the Salvation Army.
Clothing Giveaway for Hurricane Survivors
But the fun doesn’t stop there! In a noble effort to assist families still on the path to recovery from the hurricane, a special free clothing distribution event is set to take place on Tuesday. Staged across four family stores and the Kroc Center, this giveaway has been made possible by a generous donation from the Pros Fore Clothes Foundation and will distribute essential clothing items to those looking to rebuild their lives.
Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the clothing event will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early. As families line up, they’ll have the opportunity to provide their clothing sizes, while friendly Salvation Army staff and volunteers lend a helping hand in selecting items.
Hope for Families in Need
“Our mission has always been to help those in need, and we are honored to partner with The Salvation Army to provide clothing to those affected by Hurricane Helene,” expressed Lisa Railey, executive director of the Pros Fore Clothes Foundation. “It’s our hope that this small gesture helps lighten the burden for families as they recover from this disaster.” Most of the available clothing will cater to youth large and adult sizes, although stock may be limited, so families are encouraged to act fast!
