Local Restaurants Undergo Health Inspections: The Good and The Not-So-Good
Welcome to Augusta, where the food is as vibrant as the community! Recently conducted health inspections from March 31 to April 4 have revealed how our local dining establishments are faring when it comes to cleanliness and food safety. While no restaurant, pool, or hotel received a failing score, two spots did earn a score on the lower end of the scale—and we’re here to dish out the details.
The Low Scorers
Taqueria El Patron, located at 3107 Wrightsboro Road, and Huang Wing Group/BTJ Wings, found at 3697 Windsor Spring Road, Suite 112, both registered an 82 on their health inspections. While that’s not a failing grade, it’s certainly food for thought!
Taqueria El Patron had a few deductions that raised eyebrows. They lost points for an unclean ice machine featuring brown buildup, which cost them 4 points. They also were noted for having old guacamole that had passed its use by date, which earned another 4-point deduction. To add insult to injury, they forgot to post their most recent health inspection score, taking away 1 more point from their tally. It might be a good time for them to spruce things up to ensure everyone enjoys their tasty tacos safely!
As for Huang Wing Group/BTJ Wings, they too have some housecleaning to do. They got flagged for dirty dishes that were thought to be clean, which knocked 4 points off their score. Additionally, there were food items lacking prep and discard dates, which also cost them 4 points. On top of that, some food was found improperly stored on the floor, taking away 3 more points. Yikes! That’s certainly something to keep an eye on next time you’re craving those wings.
The Stars of the Show
But don’t worry, there’s still plenty to celebrate! Several establishments managed to score a perfect 100, which means they had no health violations at all during this inspection period. Let’s hear it for Kinja Sushi at 516 Shartom Dr., Subway at 1569 Walton Way, Arby’s at 2733 Washington Rd., Starbucks at 228 Robert C. Daniel Sr. Blvd., Westside High School at 1002 Patriot’s Way, and Cold Stone Creamery at 210 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Pkwy. These local favorites really went above and beyond, ensuring that we can enjoy our meals with peace of mind!
Additionally, some establishments earned “A” ratings, which signify scores between 90 and 99. Notable mentions include Krystal at 1555 Walton Way with a stellar score of 99, Sue Reynolds Elementary School at 3840 Wrightsboro Rd. also at 99, T.W. Josey High School at 1701 15th St. with a score of 98, and New China located at 5112 Wrightsboro Road with a respectable 91. These establishments are shining examples of maintaining excellent health standards!
